The New Defence Sports Club - Home of Horley Town Football Club & Horley Rugby Club

The New Defence Sports Club is based in Horley and is arguably one of the most enviable sporting venues in the South East, providing sports facilities to hundreds of local adults and children as well as a superbly equipped clubhouse. Our sole aim is to provide our facilities for the enjoyment of people of all ages, whether you wish to play sport, watch sport or simply enjoy a drink in relaxed and comfortable surroundings.

The New Defence Sports Club is home to two of Horley's most successful sports clubs - Horley Town Football Club and Horley Rugby Club. Both of these clubs offer services for adults and children of all ages and abilities. You can visit the individual websites of Horley Town Football Club and Horley Rugby Club by clicking the links above. This website is designed to give you more information on the New Defence Sports Club as a whole, including the facilities available to hire for parties and functions, information on the sponsors that are vital to the success of an amateur sports club and information on our opening hours, events, location etc.

The New Defence Sports Club was built in 2003 after the previous home of Horley Town Football Club, The Old Defence, was sold to developers. The previous site was on land that had been held in trust since 1947 for the people of Horley in memory of those that died in the defence of their country. The dream was to build a brand new clubhouse that was sustainable for the future growth of sport in Horley, and we are extremely proud that this has been achieved to date, with future growth at the forefront of our minds. We are a non-profit-making organisation, run by volunteers, and every penny that is earned is invested in improving the facilities. Horley Rugby Club moved to the New Defence in 2010 and are proud to now call it their home, boasting a superb record of home victories and celebrating in style in the superb clubhouse.

In Autumn 2011, the brand new Horley Anderson Leisure Centre was built on our door step, offering fantastic facilities and making the site the hub of Horley's sporting excellence. The leisure centre boasts a splendid swimming pool, gymnasium with state of the art equipment & weights and a sports hall for indoor team games. The leisure centre does not have a cafeteria for it's users and the New Defence, along with our in-house caterer The Reigate Catering Company, are happy to offer a relaxed bar atmosphere as well as great snack food to people wishing to take up social membership.

As well as being home to two of Horley's finest sports clubs, the New Defence is also one of the best party and function venues in the area. For more information on our facilities for parties and functions, please CLICK HERE.

Both Horley Town Football Club and Horley Rugby Club have their own valued sponsors, but both individual clubs as well as the overall sports club need more sponsors to fund vital improvements to the facilities as well as to purchase kit and equipment for seniors and juniors alike. Horley Town Football Club was founded in 1898 to provide football for the local community. From its early days the aim has not changed, it still provides for healthy competition from boys and girls aged 7 through to senior status. From junior football there has always been a team capable of competing in whatever league it was playing in. The Club progressed from junior football for its first team to intermediate and eventually on to senior status. At senior level the Club was a member of the Surrey Senior League and progressed to the old Spartan League in 1979, from here after winning the league, the Club progressed in 1981 to the old Athenian League.

At present, Horley Town's 1st team compete in the Combined Counties League under the new management team led by Ali Rennie. We have developed the excellent ground work formed within the youth set up, and committed to producing where possible our own youngsters. The reserves play in the Suburban Football League,  the Youth team play in the Southern Youth League  and the third team play in the Redhill and District League.

Horley Rugby Club was formed in 2007 by 3 friends who had played at other clubs in Surrey and Sussex but wanted to see a rugby club in their home town of Horley. The club received huge support and in our first year of league rugby, Horley RFC were crowned champions of the Sussex 3 league, having lost just one game in their entire season. After promtion to Sussex 2, Horley RFC were unlucky not to achieve successive promotions, finishing third in the league and narrowly missing out on a playoff spot. Our sights are firmly set on promotion in 2011/12 and our ambitions are high for continuing to climb the leagues. In 2010, Horley Rugby Club were voted Team of the Year by East Surrey & Sussex Newspapers' readers, rewarding the entire club for their hard work and commitment both on and off the field.

We currently run two senior sides (our second team also play in their own league) and we have a thriving mini rugby section for children aged 6 to 11 years old. At all age groups, we welcome players of all standards. Whether you are a seasoned veteran or a complete newcomer to the sport, you will not find a friendlier or more inclusive club than Horley RFC, and our social activities and tours are legendary!

We are great believers in seeing everyone reach their full potential and make the most of their playing years - you are a long time retired from sport and the worst thing to happen to any sports person is to look back with regret at what they could have / should have done in their youger years. At the very least, being a part of Horley Rugby Club will give you great memories and friends for life.
